Three interesting examples of IT solutions in history

When the Internet first started. It wasn't as functional as today it is. The messages between the computers were just some raw binary data, that then must be assembled into some readable text. The messages there didn't have the recipient's name or sender's name. Instead, it just was source and destination IP addresses.

However, in 1971 the first implementation of modern email protocol was created. It allowed to send a message using the "@" sign to indicate the user the message is designated to. Back in those days it was a revolutionary idea that soon became very popular. This protocol has been developed over years. And in 1973 it become a solid standard of sending and receiving a message.

Later in 1978 the first Email program was created to more easily send an email from one computer to another. Then this standard became accessible for average consumers too.

The email protocol is still relevant to this day. But now it mostly now used to send formal letters, register to an website or send files to another person.

Back before Google was a thing. There haven't been many ways to search for the information. The only way there was by going to different forum websites, that you knew and hoping that the information you were trying to get is there or you could surf from one hyperlink to another, until you get the right one. For sure, there wasn’t a method to find the information you need quickly.

The company that solved that problem was Google LLC. In 1998 they created a search engine that allow people to find any website by typing the key words they interested in. 

This convenient web application soon became the most popular website in the Internet and the word google became common. Now this word is a synonym to search the information from the web.

The Google still holds the "top search engine" category to this day.


        Virtual Reality Headset

When the IT industry began developing, people started dreaming about virtual reality and how in the future everyone will live there. Although, we aren't living in the virtual reality by now. Surely, the virtual reality plays a big role nowadays. One of the common solutions to experience virtual reality is by wearing a VR headset.

Although, the first implementations of VR headset were around 90's. It was mostly different tests and wasn't aimed at consumer-grade market (at least not at lower end).

The whole revolution with the VR headsets was in 2012, when the first Oculus Rift was created. That VR headset gave the ability to anyone experience virtual reality in its beauty. Later on, the others popular VR headsets were introduced, such as HTC Vive (in 2016) and Valve Index (in 2019). 

Even though, the virtual reality is still uncommon, the latest news shows, that the popularity and availability of VR is only increasing.


Conclusion

Those were three interesting IT solutions through out 1970's 1990's and 2010's

Today we are going to review the book named "The case of copyright reform" and I will show my opinion on it.         Background Christian Engström  ( Image source )     Rick Falkvinge  ( Image source ) This book was written by Rick Falkvinge and Christian Engström back in 2012. They were two Swedish Pirate Party activists. Their intention on writing this book was that the current copyright system is broken and creates some difficulties for new artists and ordinary people. When the Internet first started developing, back in those days there was plenty of new technologies that really helped people then. Most of these technologies became a standard, because of their usefulness. Sadly, not all standards have lived to this day. Some of them were replaced by other standards that became even popular.
