The IT Specialist nowadays and 20 years before

Today we're going to look at IT specialists. How, this profession looked like 20 years before and it's place nowadays

        Who is the IT Specialist

First, we must define who is IT specialist. This is a person, who works within IT industry. They could write code, create architecture, test IT solutions, or maintain the servers.

Now when we know who is the IT specialist, we can compare the today IT specialist with the old one.

    IT specialist in 2000's

The IT specialists back there wasn't as needed as today they are. They role was more about educating other workers in their company on how to use a computer. 

Also, because the hardware back then wasn't as powerful as today it is, the programmers had to optimize their code rather than focusing on the goals and achieving them.

Then there is the cybersecurity aspect, it wasn't as developed as it is today. Back there the HTTPS protocol was only introduced in RFC 2818 document, so almost all of websites didn't use them before that, which is seen by today as potential security problem, because of the possible interception and MITM attacks. Also, only a few people knew about holes in other company infrastructure that could be exploited. In eyes of many those people looked like dark mages that could do everything they wanted as long as it connected to the Internet or Cell line.

The IT specialists back then looked like office workers, but specialized in the new tech, which itself was fresh and seen by many company owners as risky thing to implement. However, it has changes over time.

    IT specialist today

Today the IT specialist plays a critically important role in every company. Because every company have to work some way or another with the Internet. For example, having a website or having a communication pipeline for the information from another company they partnered with.

However, today IT specialist is something different. It is more about solving the company problems and working as a coordinated team. 

The amount of people knowing about IT has risen since then. And so does the company need in them.


Conclusion

As I said the IT specialist looks today more like necessity to have, because if your company doesn't have their own webpage, they will have hard time promoting themselves and finding new customers. It is a huge leap in IT industry over those time, because implementing IT system was a risky investment at first.
